Seguridad en las Playas
Beach Safety
Puerto Rico tiene corrientes marinas fuertes, especialmente en el Norte durante invierno. Busca siempre la Bandera Roja antes de entrar. Si visitas playas aisladas como Playa Sucia o Survival Beach, lleva agua y no dejes basura. Ayúdanos a conservar nuestros recursos.
Puerto Rico has strong ocean currents, especially on the north coast during winter. Always look for the red flag before entering the water. Bring water to remote beaches and leave no trash behind.
Best Beaches in Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico has over 300 miles of coastline with beaches ranging from world-famous white-sand stretches to hidden coves only locals know about. Flamenco Beach in Culebra is consistently ranked among the top ten beaches in the world, while Crash Boat in Aguadilla is an island icon with its colorful fishing boats and crystal-clear water. On the southwest coast, Playa Sucia (La Playuela) in Cabo Rojo offers dramatic views of the historic lighthouse perched on sea cliffs.
The west coast (Porta del Sol) is Puerto Rico's surf capital — Rincón's Domes Beach, María's Beach, and Tres Palmas draw surfers from around the world between November and April. The east coast (Porta Antillas) is known for calmer, crystal-clear waters at Seven Seas in Fajardo and the famous coconut-lined beach at Luquillo with its popular food kiosks. Near San Juan, Condado Beach and Ocean Park offer urban beach experiences minutes from the city.
For families, Puerto Rico's "balnearios" — government-maintained beaches with lifeguards, bathrooms, and parking — are the safest option. Popular balnearios include Luquillo, Boquerón in Cabo Rojo, Carolina Beach near San Juan, and Punta Salinas in Toa Baja. For snorkeling, head to Culebra and Vieques, or the coral reefs at La Parguera in Lajas.
